The Fruits of War        
     The chain of events that led to a terrible confrontation began innocently enough, in the grocery store. I had started grocery shopping near the deli, and worked my way to the produce section. I had no idea that I was buying ammunition as I selected five or six pomegranates. “Oh boy!” I thought putting them in the cart along with the milk, eggs, and peanut butter. “I’m lucky to find pomegranates this cheap so early in the season!” Most of the groceries were good sturdy basics, and the pomegranates seemed to add a bit of fun. I hadn’t eaten a pomegranate in years!
